Overview
The magnetic filter is an in-line device for hydronic heat pump circuits. It captures magnetic and non-magnetic particles from the water using a 12,000 or 6,000 gauss magnet with a wear-resistant 16 mesh stainless steel filter element. Seals are high-temperature EPDM, and maximum flow is 50 L/min, so it suits a circuit rather than a large plant loop.
It fits the water side of an air-to-water heat pump, boiler or chiller circuit, typically ahead of the heat exchanger being protected. Two variants cover different connections and pressure ratings: the 12,000 gauss body takes 22 / 28 mm and 3/4" – 1 1/4" at up to 5 bar; the 6,000 gauss body takes 22 mm and G3/4 at up to 4 bar and 90°C.
Where it is used
- Water-side protection on air-to-water heat pump circuits
- Cleaning up an existing hydronic system that has accumulated debris
- Chilled-water and boiler circuits needing a compact in-line strainer
- Service work where system water quality is managed
Selection & installation notes
- 01
Choose the variant on two numbers, not one. The 12,000 gauss body is rated to 5 bar; the 6,000 gauss body to 4 bar with a 90°C maximum working temperature. Match the higher against circuit design conditions.
- 02
Confirm connection size against the pipework being installed — 22 / 28 mm and 3/4" – 1 1/4" on the 12,000 gauss variant, 22 mm and G3/4 on the 6,000 gauss variant.
- 03
The 50 L/min maximum is a circuit limit. On larger systems allow more than one filter position rather than forcing full loop flow through a single body.
- 04
Leave access for removing and cleaning the stainless steel element — that is the routine maintenance action.
Common questions
Which variant should I specify — 12,000 gauss or 6,000 gauss?
It depends on connection size and circuit conditions more than magnet strength. The 12,000 gauss version covers 22 / 28 mm and 3/4" – 1 1/4" to 5 bar; the 6,000 gauss version covers 22 mm and G3/4 to 4 bar at 90°C.
Does it remove non-magnetic debris as well as magnetic sludge?
Yes. There are two capture mechanisms in one body: the magnet collects magnetic particles, and a wear-resistant 16 mesh stainless steel element collects non-magnetic particles.
What is the maximum flow through one filter?
50 L/min. Where circuit flow exceeds that, the filter position has to be reconsidered — for example by splitting the loop or using more than one unit.
