Confirm 24V control power before anything else. The AFT533D runs on 24 VAC and needs a C-wire or the optional adapter, and in a retrofit the wall conductors decide whether existing wiring is reused or extended.

Decide how much of the system the thermostat must run: 2-stage heating and cooling, 2-stage auxiliary or alternative heat, emergency heat, dual fuel and one- or two-wire humidifier or dehumidifier outputs. The wiring follows the installed stages.

Choose between Wi-Fi connectivity and local operation, and whether remote sensors are needed. Residential zoning control — dampers, zone panel, bypass damper, per-zone thermostats — is in development and not available for order; balance uses the 915 MHz remote zone sensors.

Where a building management system is involved, decide the protocol at quotation. BACnet and Modbus are communication protocol options on the commercial rooftop platform — protocol support, not a certification — not a wall-thermostat function.

On the hydronic side, select components against the circuit: the mixing centre comes as a G1" unit with a 30–70°C range and ±1°C accuracy or a G1" unit with a 20–45°C range and ±3°C accuracy, and the magnetic filter is rated for the circuit.
How it connects to the rest of the system
- This segment is where the other five are joined. The thermostat drives heating and cooling changeover, ventilation modes and humidity accessories, so it is where the other selections either work together or are found not to.
- With heat pumps and air conditioning, the thermostat is the changeover and staging logic — dual fuel, 2-stage auxiliary heat, emergency heat, cooling stages — checked against the project wiring diagram.
- With heat pumps on the water side, the magnetic filter removes magnetic and non-magnetic particles in 12,000 and 6,000 gauss versions with different pressure and temperature limits; the mixing centre sets delivery temperature.
- With ventilation, the same thermostat holds the ventilation sequence, while the smart thermostatic valve covers radiator zones separately: 2 × AA cells for approximately 12 months, ±1°C accuracy across 5–35°C, retrofitting without re-piping.
Common questions
Is the residential zoning control available to order?
No. The North American zoning control — motorised zone dampers, a zone control panel, a bypass damper and per-zone thermostats — is in development and not available for order. Until release, room-level balance uses the remote zone sensors the AFT533D supports.
What is the thermostat compatible with?
Most 24V systems: conventional 2-stage heating and cooling, heat pump systems with 2-stage heating and cooling plus 2-stage auxiliary or alternative heat and emergency heat, dual-fuel or hybrid heat, and humidity accessories.
What are the differences between the two mixing centres?
Both are brass mixing units with a temperature gauge and a G1 connection. One has a 30–70°C range with a Greenpro pump, 100°C maximum and ±1°C accuracy; the other a 20–45°C range with a Wilo pump, 90°C maximum and ±3°C accuracy.
Can the thermostat be integrated with a third-party system?
It supports voice assistant integration and IFTTT, over Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz with BLE for pairing and a 915 MHz radio for up to six remote sensors. BACnet and Modbus sit on the commercial rooftop platform instead.
