Specifications →Design decisions behind this solution
- 01
Choose ERV or HRV from the climate and the building. Both share one platform — ECM 3-speed motors, auto-balancing without flow keys, a washable recovery core — so the decision is about moisture and frost behaviour over the heating season.
- 02
Select airflow against the static pressure the installed duct system will actually produce. The range covers 100 and 150 CFM models, and the figure of up to SRE 77.4% at 0.4 in. w.g applies at that stated condition.
- 03
Decide port type and mounting together: side-port and top-port versions, wall-mounted or suspended with the installation kit provided. A top-port unit in a closet with vertical runs differs from a side-port unit in a joist bay.
- 04
Treat supply and exhaust as one design. An exhaust-only arrangement pulls the building negative unless make-up air is introduced — what the MUD motorized dampers in 4", 5", 6", 8" and 10" are for.
- 05
Choose the distribution side with the air volume, on throw and noise: jet, slot and swirl diffusers for high ceilings, round and square ceiling diffusers for suspended ceilings, grilles for walls.
How it connects to the rest of the system
- With smart controls, the AFT533D drives an HRV or ERV directly in OFF, ON or AUTO modes, with ventilation assignable to each scheduled period, an outdoor-temperature lockout and a furnace interlock.
- With indoor air quality, humidity and ventilation are one subject: the thermostat carries humidifier and dehumidifier outputs on one or two wires, and lowers the indoor humidity target as outdoor temperature falls.
- With commercial equipment and the heating source, the make-up air path is shared and sequencing matters — a damper opening after the fan starts leaves the cabinet under negative pressure. Spring return to closed seals the duct on power loss.
- On the distribution side, the diffusers and grilles are the same equipment the air-conditioning drawings specify, and the ducting decides whether designed airflow reaches the room.
Common questions
How do we compare ERV and HRV performance for a project?
Through the model data: AspireVent covers 100 and 150 CFM, with sensible recovery up to SRE 77.4% at 0.4 in. w.g, ECM 3-speed motors, auto-balancing without flow keys and a core washable in soapy water. Warranty is 5 years on the motor.
Do you offer both top-port and side-port versions, and how is the unit balanced?
Yes — 100 and 150 CFM units come with side ports or top ports. Balancing is automatic without flow keys, so delivered airflow does not depend on a field balancing kit. The unit can be wall-mounted or suspended, kit included.
What static pressure should we design to?
The external static pressure your duct system will actually produce. The published recovery figure is stated at 0.4 in. w.g, a specific condition rather than a guarantee across the range, so confirm the operating point on the submittal sheet.
